CAUSED GIRL’S DEATH CAR DRIVER’S NEGLIGENCE

The death of Miss Joyce Halvorsen, 18, of Beresford, formerly of Akron, was caused by “gross negligence” on the part of Lyman H. Triggs, a Union county coroner’s jury of three men decided at a recent coroner’s inquest at Elk Point. Coroner Linden Anderson announced last week.

Mr. Triggs, owner of Beresford café in which Miss Halvorsen was employed, died several days after the accident in a Sioux City hospital. Miss Halvorsen was killed instantly when the car in which she was riding with Mr. Triggs missed a corner at the junction of Highways 77 and 50, about twelve miles west of here, and then rolled about 175 feet. The accident happened early Friday morning, October 29.

Union County Sheriff Ed Ekren at the time of the accident said that a contributory factor causing the accident was excessive speed.
