Mrs. John I. A. Johnson, of Sioux Valley township, Union county, S. D., was relieved of suffering at 1 o’clock on the morning of Wednesday, November 24, 1909, after more than a year’s illness, of a cancerous affection, aged 62 years, 9 moths and 12 days.
Margaret Hanson Johnson, was born February 12, 1847, in Mora Sweden, and at the age of nine years moved with her parents to Jamtland. When about sixteen years of age she became converted and joined the Baptist church. Later the family moved to Upland, after which she made the journey to the United states alone, when about twenty-one years old, locating in Omaha, Nebr. The next year, 1868, her sisters came to this country, and in 1870 her parents and brothers came.
They first stopped in Omaha, but came on to Union county, S. D., where they located on a homestead. In 1872 deceased came from Omaha to Union county and was there united in marriage with John I. A. Johnson at his home, on Jamuary 21, 1872. To this union was born eleven children, two daughters, Johanna and Anna, dying in infancy. Those surviving a are Andrew, Mary, Julia, Katie, John, Arthur, Ruth, Oscar and Adolph. And there are also eleven grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was a loving and dutiful wife and mother, and her character was such as to endear her to the community in which she lived so many years, and all friends unite in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
There was a large attendance at the funeral hold Sunday afternoon n the Akron Church of Christ, the service being conducted by Rev. J. S. Bain, of the M. E. church. Interment was made in Rive3rside cemetery.
