Mrs. Henry (Matie) Hitzemann, 91, of Akron, died Wednesday (June 12, 1985) in the Akron city hospital of a long illness.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15 in the Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Marvin Mueller officiated. Cheryl Plueger and Roxanne Larson sang, "Abide With Me", accompanied by Pam Richards, organist. The congregation sang "Rock Of Ages" and "Beautiful Saviour".
Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron, under the direction of the Schroeder funeral home, Akron.
Pallbearers were Melvin Hitzemann, Harold Kleihauer, Eldon Von Hagel, Paul Von Hagel, Vernon Jurgensen, and Raymond Andresen.
Mrs. Hitzemann, the former Helen Margaret "Matie" Von Hagel, was born Jan. 28, 1894, to Albert and Lena Feibing Von Hagel, Sr., in Union county, S.D. She married Henry Hitzemann Feb. 12, 1923 at Akron. They were area farmers and retired in 1959. He died in 1961 and she moved to Akron in 1962.
Mrs. Hitzemann was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Akron, the ALCW and was a former president of the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include five sons, Arnold, George and Marvin, all of Akron, Arden of Canton, S.D. and Robert of Worthington, Minn.; two daughters, Helen Meske of Clear Lake and Esther Neunaber of Akron; two brothers, John and George, both of Akron; one sister, Anna Long of Akron; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
