Evan Harris
Evan Harris, 85, Akron, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1981, at the Akron hospital of a long illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Wesley United Methodist church, Akron. The Rev. Peter Peterson officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home, Akron.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Hoschler post 186 American Legion, Akron.
Pallbearers were Jay Robertson, James Appley, Donald Luckes, Cal Robertson, Eldon Seely, and Leonard Klemme.
Mr. Harris was born Sept. 28, 1895, at Akron. He married Ethelyn Adams Feb. 24, 1920, in Sioux City. They farmed in the Akron area 45 years and retired to Akron in 1965.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Harris was a 50-year member of Hoschler American Legion post 186. Survivors include the widow; three sons, Stanley of Lakewood, Calif., Orville of Des Moines, and Gaynor of Akron; two daughters, Helen Palmer of Des Moines and Mrs. Harlan (Joyce) Hummel of Hawarden; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Adams of Akron; a brother, Orin of Akron; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
