LaVonne “Bonnie” Esther Shirley Hartmann was born on July 2, 1919 on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa to George and Lillian (Null) Faulkner. She attended school in Brunsville and Le Mars, Iowa. Bonnie was united in marriage to Bruno ‘Ben’ Hartmann on May 18, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. They first made their home in Evanston, Illinois and later moved to Akron, Iowa in 1986. Ben passed away on January 6, 1992.

Bonnie was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Evanston, Illinois where she was involved in many capacities including the choir, board of directors, and mother’s club. She later became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa where she was also a member of Martha’s Club.

Ben and Bonnie traveled extensively together: visiting all 50 states and traveling to Hawaii 5 times. After Ben passed away, Bonnie continued her travels, sometimes even alone. She went to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Norway, Alaska, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany. She also went to England to visit relatives on her father’s side. One memorable trip was planned by her daughter Beth to New York where they rode the New Queen Mary II to London.. Bonnie could pack her suitcase in just a few minutes - she just loved to travel.

Bonnie also loved going dancing, playing cards, and caring for her garden and yard. Bonnie had a sense of adventure and caring that everyone around her benefitted from.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Beth Gloss; granddaughter, Molly Pierce; great grandchildren: Anthony Dominguez, Billy Hounsom, and Bella Pierce; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ben: and two sisters: Dorothy and Gladys; brother, William Faulkner; and her dear friend, Ellis Tucker.
