James A. Murphy Dies

James A. Murphy, a former resident of this community, died Saturday in a hospital at Beaver, Okla., as a result of injuries received at Beaver several days before. Mr. Murphy and son, Doyle, were hauling feed in a truck and Mr. Murphy was on top of the load when the truck ran under a telephone wire which caught him and threw him to the ground. One leg was broken and he received internal injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy left this community twenty years or more ago, going to Nebraska. They lived for a time at Pawnee City, later moving to the Lincoln. Mr. Murphy had gone to Oklahoma to work with his son during the winter. The body was brought to Coin from Oklahoma by motor hearse.

James A. Murphy, a son of John and Elizabeth Murphy, was born at Coin, Iowa, Sept. 23, 1973, and departed this life at Beaver, Okla., Dec. 6, 1930, at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 17 days.

On Oct. 9, 1894, he was united in marriage to Birdie Delphine Turnbull. To them were born five children: Clark Olin, who preceded him in death; Clifford Edwin of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mabel Vera of Eagle, Nebr.; Doyle Douglass of Beaver, Okla.; and Lloyd Ray of Carroll, Iowa.

He was a member of the Baptist church and also affiliated with the Odd Fellow Lodge at Pawnee, Neb.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and four children, seven grandchildren; five brothers, Fed, Thomas, John, Bert and Will; two sisters, Jennie and Lillian (Mrs. Chas. Schimana), all of Coin, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends. He was a devoted husband and a most worthy father, whose counsel and comradeship will be greatly missed.

" 'Tis hard to break the tender cord

When love has bound the heart,

'Tis hard, so hard to speak the words,

'We must forever part.'

Just a thought of sweet remembrance,

Just a token of affection,

And a heart ache just for you,

Just a sigh for the olden moments,

Just a smile of love anew,

Just a tear in silence falling

And a yearning just for you."

Funeral services were held by his pastor, Rev. T.J. Reece of Pawnee City, Nebr., and Rev. V. W. Henderson at the Methodist Episcopal church at Coin, Iowa, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, Dec. 10. Interment was made in the Elmwood cemetery. The I.O.O.F. burial rites were conducted by Rev. T.J. Reece. The pall bearers were the three sons and three of his brothers. The music at the service were rendered by a quartet of male voices, composed by Messrs E.C. Henderson, Earl Anderson, Arthur Henderson and J.H. Shaw, with Merrill Manifold accompanying at the piano (newspapers clipping; source unknown)
