Funeral services for Ervin G. Graves were conducted at the American Lutheran Church, Melvin, Iowa, Friday, August 1, 1969, at 1:30 p.m. A family prayer service was held at 11 a.m. with Pastor H.H. Adix officiating. Mrs. Bob Damman and Bruce Knock sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art," accompanied by Laine Dvorak at the organ. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Andy Knock, Mrs. Harold Juber and Mrs. George Brunk.

Ervin George Graves was born on November 19, 1903, in Ocheyedan Township. He passed away Tuesday, July 29, 1969 at the Community Memorial Hospital at Hartley after a long illness. At the age of eleven years he moved to Melvin with his family in 1914. He attended and graduated from the Melvin High School in 1924.

His first wife passed away in 1936. On December 3, 1939, he was united in marriage to Irene Jochums at Ocheyedan, Iowa, with Rev. Boye officiating. This marriage was blessed with one son, Harry Lee. Mr. Graves was baptized and confirmed a member of the American Lutheran Church. He served as president of the Brotherhood, on the church council, director of the county school board, and a 4-H leader.

He farmed in the Ocheyedan and Melvin vicinity and moved to his present farm home in 1944.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; one son, Harry Lee; his mother Ida Graves; two brothers, Alfred and Art of Melvin; two sisters (Freda) Mrs. Ben Knock of Melvin and (Elsie) Mrs. Ed Wackerbarth of Ocheyedan. He was preceded in death by his father Sept. 5, 1858.

Casket bearers were Reinhard Riessen, Sylvester Harmelink, Albert Ford, Clarence Elgersma, Byron Nieuwendrop and Vern Dummett. Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery, Melvin, Iowa.
