Avis McFadden 1906-1989

Funeral services for Avis McFadden, 83, West Liberty, were held June 20, 1989 at the First Church United in West Liberty, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery.

Avis McFadden died June 17 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following a one month illness.

The daughter of Samuel and Lilla Richards McFadden, she was born Feb 21, 1906 in West Liberty. She graduated from West Liberty high school in 1923 and later received her degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.

She taught for 4 years in the rural Muscatine county schools, 7 years in Sac City and 36 years at the Madison elementary school in Davenport, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty, Chapter AH of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Avis McFadden is survived by 2 sisters, Margaret Endsley, Minneapolis, Minn. and Mildred Dryden, Iowa Falls; one niece and 4 nephews. She was a preceded in death by her parents, a brother and one sister.
