Funeral services for Carl W. Schiele, 88, were held at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, April 10, 1989 with Masonic rites by the Mt. Calvary Masonic lodge. The Rev. Ralph Farmer was in charge of services. Pallbearers were Wayne and Charles Wolf, William and Robert Cline, Darrel Sterner and Robert Brooke. Honorary bearers were Howard Nealson, Louis Morris, Leroy Schneider and Hub Elder. Dorothy Ways was organist. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery. Military rites were by the Mansel Phillips American Legion Post, West Liberty.
Mr. Schiele died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, April 7.
The son of Charles and Emma Miller Schiele, he was born on a farm north of West Liberty April 26, 1900. He married Ethel Wolf in Davenport Nov. 29, 1923.
Mr. Schiele attended the University of Iowa and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the American Legion, the Mt. Calvary Masonic lodge and the Royal Arch Masons.
Mr. and Mrs. Schiele farmed in Muscatine and Cedar counties, retiring from farming in 1953. They moved to West Liberty in 1975.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Shirley Jean) Lehman, West Liberty; a grandson, Tom and 2 grandchildren, Tricia and Joe Lehman. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
