Students to Honor
2 Local Teachers
The memory of two Muscatine teachers who together had served 80 years in the public school system will be honored by students of the Junior High School Monday afternoon.School will be dismissed that afternoon in honor of Mrs. Ivy Willhite, 65, and Anna Margaret Hendriks, 64. Mrs. Willhite died at 8 a.m. Thursday when she suffered a heart attack in front of the school as she was reporting for another day in the classroom.
Miss Hendriks, retired after the close of school last year, died Thursday night at her home, on West Fourth Street.
Students at the junior high are taking up two collections today, one by the home room students of Mrs. Willhite for a floral tribute at her funeral services, and the other collection by the entire student body for a memorial fund for both teachers.
Mrs. Willhite taught in the public schools here for 36 years. Miss Hendriks began her teaching career here in 1906 and except for a years absent in 1911, served continously until her retirement in 1951.
