Ira M. Goodwin passed away from cancer on Thursday, June 14, 2012; at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19; at the Iles Funeral Home/ Grandview Park Chapel. A private burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Iowa.
Ira was born on December 14, 1929 in Lovilia to James and Marcia (McNeil) Goodwin. Ira served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 as a military policeman. He moved to the Des Moines area at a young age and later met and married Lillian Krause. While helping to raise 4 children, Ira worked for Massey Ferguson and Ford Motor Company as a machinist & press operator. He also worked at Economy Forms and later he enjoyed 12 years with CT Farm and Country maintaining vending machines and for the most recent 6 years as a school crossing guard. Ira's favorite pastime was enjoying coffee and time spent with friends and long time lady friend Pat Krueger.
Ira is survived by daughters Ihla Hochstetler and Laurie Tomlinson and sons, Larry and Mike Goodwin, his brother James, five Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren. Ira is preceded in death by Lillian Goodwin, brother Dale, sisters Mary Patterson and Caroline Stanley.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
