F. J.{sic} Lamar was killed at the Ward mine near Albia, when he pushed an empty car down the mouth of an open shaft. Car and man both plunged to the bottom of the shaft.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was J. T. Lamar who was born in 1859 and is buried in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Georgetown.
