John Andrews Rites Saturday; Dies Thursday
Newton – Funeral services for John Andrews, 85, of 2701 1st Ave. W., a resident of Newton, for approximately 30 years, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Albia.
He died Thursday morning at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Survivors are a number of nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Ruth Byers of Des Moines, Mrs. Lucy Nelson of Woodhull, Ill., Mrs. Sam (Maude) Bennett of Newton and Mrs. Edith De Moss of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, March 5, 1978, three brother, two sisters and his parents.
Mr. Andrews, a former coal miner in the Lovilia area, had owned and operated a restaurant in Lovilia.
The son of James Henry and Julia Butler Andrew (cq), he was born Feb. 2, 1897 in Oskaloosa.
He was married to Ruth Colwell May 3, 1920 in Albia.
