"Pinkey" Long Killed at Onawa.

Conductor "Pinkey" or Martin Long was instantly killed about 7:30 Saturday morning while getting ready to make up his train in the Onawa yards. Just how the accident happened will never be known, but the engine of his train was slowly backing up and he was walking in the same direction on the outside of the rails. He either slipped or attempted to cross in front of the engine and got under the wheels of the tender. The wheels of the tender had to be jacked up before his body could be removed. His skull and one arm and leg were broken. "Pinkey" had been in the service of the North-Western for years and for a long time was conductor on a local out of Lake City to Jewell and return and has many friends here who will sympathize with his wife and three children.
