Shirley was born December 7, 1936, the daughter of Ernest and Leta (Willson) Stoner. She grew up on a farm in Jewell, Iowa. Her mother passed away when she was twelve, leaving her to manage the household and take care of a brother and a younger sister, while her father farmed. She had a little ornery streak, one time she locked the country school teacher in the cob shed because she didn’t like her. “Oh, she was mean.” Shirley was a cheerleader in high school and graduated from Randall High School in 1955.

Shirley Stoner and Kenneth Hansen eloped at the Little Brown Church in the Vale on October 18, 1955. To this union six children were born: Mark, LeAnn, Steve, Julie, Sandra, and Kelly.

Shirley worked as a CNA at various nursing facilities. She also worked for a factory in Jefferson, Iowa, and for her brother at the Allis-Chalmers Farm Store in Onawa causing the move from eastern Iowa to Turin, Iowa, in 1975.

Granny and Gramps evolved in 1977 when their first grandchild was born. Since then, the whole town of Turin and Monona County knew who granny and gramps were.

Granny enjoyed crocheting, shoes, clothes, jewelry, and had classy taste in all, but loved her family most of all.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Kenneth “Gramps” Hansen; daughter, Sandra Mortensen of Onawa, Iowa; son-in-law, Robert McClure of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Bobbie (Craig) Sherer of Onawa, Iowa, Shellie Nelson of Thurston, Nebraska, Michael McClure of Onawa, Iowa, Joshua (Krista) Henry of Omaha, Nebraska, Zachary Henry of Onawa, Iowa, and Meghan (Ben Manning) Henry of Sioux City, Iowa; eleven great-grandchildren, Xavier Sherer, Wyatt Sherer, Londyn Nelson, Elijah Nelson, Lauren Anderson, Brendyn Recker, MaliAnn McClure, Ansen McClure, Nora McClure, Eleanor Henry, Joplin Manning, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Leta (Willson) Stoner; brother, Wendall Stoner; sister, Sharon Frette; children, Mark Hansen, LeAnn McClure, Steve Hansen, Julie Hansen, and Kelly Hansen; and grandson-in-law, Dan Nelson.
