Virginia “Teter” L. Gries, 77, of Sioux City, passed away after a brief illness on Feb. 14, 2024. She went to sleep on Valentine’s Day, which was a perfect day for her to go to sleep, because everyone loved her.
A funeral service will be held 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 with a visitation 1 hour prior at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3636 Aspenwood, Sioux City. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Onawa City Cemetery. In honor of Virginia and her love for hats, the family requests that you wear a hat to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Teter was born on Sept. 2, 1946 in Sioux City, to Norman and Virginia (Pierce) Gries. She loved to travel with her mom, aunt and sister, traveling all over the United States.
She also started going on bus trips in 2008 with her sister. Teter enjoyed social media, going to the senior center, the gym and spending time with family. She loved to work and had worked at Zenith and Aalfs Manufacturing before they both closed, and would often babysit for family and friends. Teter could often be seen wearing a hat that she made. She began crocheting homemade baby blankets for family and friends, and made hats which she donated to the Cancer Center. Teter was the family and friends personal alarm clock, calling to wake them up for work or church. She had a strong faith and was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Those left to honor her memory include her siblings: Norman Gries, Carol (Bill) Vander Veen, Ruth (John) Hood, Duane Gries; half-sister, Cheryl Gries; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lonny Gries.
