VETERAN RAIL WORKER DEAD

DENIS WARD, 83, DIED EARLY THIS WEEK AT HIS CLINTON HOME

Denis H. Ward, 83, one of the best known of the oldtime Northwestern conductors, died at his home in Clinton recently*, according to word reaching friends in Nevada.

"Denie" as he was familiarly known, was reared in State Center and for forty-five years was once a conductor on a run between Clinton and Boone and in those days of rail travel was known to thousands of people in this part of the state.

Mr. Ward, who was 83 years of age, was pensioned several years ago and since retiring had been living quietly at his home in Clinton. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Miss Georgia Ward, at home; Mrs. Marvin Ingwersen, Fulton, and Mrs. Gertrude Mann, Clinton; a son, Wayne Ward, Bloomington, Ill., and four brothers, Jack Ward, Marshalltown; Fred Ward, Nashua, and Charles and Frank Ward, Chicago.

The Ward family lived in State Center and the boys were well known years ago as baseball players. Mr. Ward was a brother of the late W. W. Ward, of Marshalltown late Tuesday for burial n Riverside, being accompanied by the widow and daughters, Miss Georgia Ward and Mrs. Ingwersen.
