Edwin John Nokes, aged 61, a patient in the county hospital at Marshalltown, ended his life by opening an artery with a penknife when he learned that when the new federal law became effective Monday, he would be unable to get any more morphine.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born March 17, 1853 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery; however, it shows he died in March which I think is probably not correct since this was published in July.
