FORMER PREACHER DEAD.
Rev. Isaac Johnson, Father of Mrs. I. Merryman Dies.
A telegram received by Mrs. I.E. Merryman, of Marion township, tells of the death this morning of her father, Rev. Isaac Johnson, a former preacher of the county, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.E. Wheeler in Chicago, where he had been making his home for two years. Mr. Johnson, who was 96 years old, had been in failing health for some time. Death was due to the infirmities of old age.
Rev. Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 9, 1822 in Ohio and Oct. 6, 1848 was united in marriage in Blackford county, Indiana, with Miss Elvira Overhiser. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to Iowa in 1857 and settled near Newton but remained there only three years before moving to a farm one mile south of Ferguson, where the family made their home until Mrs. Johnson died nine years ago. During this time Rev. Mr. Johnson was pastor of the Bethel Grove and Timber Creek Christian churches. Rev. Mr. Johnson still owned the farm near Ferguson at his death. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, two of whom died several years ago. Beside the two daughters, Mrs. Merryman and Mrs. Wheeler, three sons survive. They are H.B. Johnson of Dow City; U.G. Johnson of Redfield, S.D. and O.A. Johnson, of Adel.
The body will be brought to Ferguson and burial will be in the Timber Creek cemetery.
