Caroline Lucille Eller was born on October 4, 1924 in Imogene, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Archer) Saner. She was raised in Imogene but moved to Clarinda her senior year of high school, where she graduated in 1942. She also met her husband, Ted Eller, Sr. in Clarinda and they were united in marriage on October 16, 1943 in Northfield, Minnesota. The couple lived in many locations before settling in Knoxville in 1951.
Caroline loved her family and excelled as a mother and homemaker, raising seven children. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, who took pride in sewing and cooking for all of her children and grandchildren. Her caring qualities and charismatic personality were apparent by the many friends she made throughout her life. She was an avid member of several bridge clubs and actively supported many community activities. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church
Caroline passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Knoxville at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark, in 1983; and siblings, Archie, Florence, Kate, Winnie, Theresa, Dorothy and Donald.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, Ted Eller, Sr.; children, Ted (Dian) Eller, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Nancy (Dale) Huss of Los Angeles, CA, John Eller of Des Moines, Katie (Bill) Nelson of New Hampton, Patty Loots of Fort Dodge and Lucy (Paul) Giehl of West Burlington; sister, Mary Dinville of Red Oak; brothers, Terry and Mike Saner, both of San Francisco, CA; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Memorial contributions may be made to HCI Care Services (Hospice) or to St. Anthony's Church.
