Mrs. Howard Worthington, 59, of Route 2, Pleasantville, was killed on the afternoon of July 15 in a head-on collision near the Dean Hodgson farmstead, about 3 miles northeast of Pleasantville. This was the fourth fatality on Marion County highways in 1964.
The pickup truck she was driving with Ruth Ann Light, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Light of Route 2, Pleasantville, as a passenger, collided head-on at the top of a hill with a car driven by David C. Smith, 18, of Route 1, Pleasantville.
Miss Light suffered head and knee cuts and a possible back injury and was taken to Wilden Hospital in Des Moines.
Officers said that the impact threw Mrs. Worthington from the truck and that the truck then fell on top of her in the grader ditch.
Highway Patrolman Lowe 11 Harris charged Smith with failure to yield half the right of way. Deputy Sheriffs Nick De Ruiter and Ernie Wilfong assisted at the accident.
