Joliet Pioneer Book, Silesia, Montana

Fred Wight was born in Winterset, Iowa, July 2, 1866, a son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Wight. He continued to live in Winterset unil his marriage in 1889.

Anna Dora Hamm was born near Hamburg, Germany, February 14, 1863. Her family came to the United States when Ann was 12 years old and settled in Iowa. She married Fred in Winterset, November 28, 1889. Soon after their marriage, the came to Montana and homesteaded on Antelope Creek, near Utica, in Fergus County. Late in 1897, they returned to Winterset and remained there until 1900. Their trail now brings them back to Montana, but this time to Silesia. They farmed in that area until 1904, then Fred bought the Robert McLeod ranch, and continued farming that ranch until his death on October 7, 1954. Anna died in Billings, August 15, 1945.

Five children were born to Fred and Anna Wight:

Clarence, born at Utica, June 8, 1890. He married Bessie Pulliam in Joliet, June 4, 1912. Following her death in 1917, Clarence married May Whittaker in Billings, May 7, 1921. Clarence died in Lewistown, Montana, August 30, 1967.

Lark, born at Utica, June 24, 1891, farmed in the Joliet area. He never married. Lark died at Warm Springs, Montana, January 1943.

Daisy, born at Utica, September 23, 1892. Daisy married Roy Newton in Joliet, December 25, 1910, and lives in Joliet.

Sylvia, born at Utica, January 5, 1897. She married William Fields in Billings, Montana, February 1929 and lives in Billings.

Judith, born at Silesia, April 25, 1902, married Curtis Cole at Livingston, Montana, September 28, 1922, and lives in Joliet.
