One of the pioneer settlers of Harrison Township is found in the personage of George Wight who was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, September 20, 1826.
He removed with his parents to Rush County, Indiana when about three years old where they remained until 1835. After a residence in Hancock County, Indiana, Knox County, Illinois and Lee County, Illinois, he came to this Township in 1857 and entered land in section 13 where he still resides.
The organization of Harrison Township was in 1856. Charles McDonald being elected the 1st clerk. The president officers of the Township are as follows: James W. Fisher, Clerk; A. P. Edick, Assessor; George Ford, Edward Lee and Jacob Brown are Trustees. The present officers of the School Board are: A. Stigers, President: J. M. McCauley, Secretary and George Wight, Treasurer.
School District No. 6, comprised of sections 13, 14, 23 and 24, has a school building situated on the northwest corner of section 23. The first director was George Wight who still holds that position. The schoolhouse in this district was first erected in 1869.
