DON'T GO. --- Persons in this community who have been talking of striking
out for the Black Hills mines in the spring, may as well abandon the idea,
as the government seems fully determined to prevent any invasion of that
district by the whites, this season.

Here is what Gen'l. Sherman says about the matter: "Miners will be
prevented from entering that region, or if any get in they will be driven
out. As soon as the weather will permit, troops will be put in the field
with instructions to prevent incursions into the Sioux reservation, and they
will be carried out by force of arms, if need be. The integrity of the
treaty with the Sioux will be maintained at all hazards."

The General further said that the frontier people complain of Indian raids,
yet in this case they do not seem to see the injustice of their own act,
which is modeled after the Indian raid or mode of acquiring property. If
necessary, troops will be sent to bring in the party now in the hills.
