MARCH. -- From an exchange we clip the following appropriate remarks, on the
first spring month:

March, the third month of the year, said to be named in honor of Mars, the
God of war, being in Italy the most favorable of the year for military
operations, is upon us. While civilization has restrained the fierce spring
of former times and the nations learn war no more, the return of this
peculiar season brings into every household bad colds, sour temper, and the
spirit that begets bitter strife which determinates so disastrously to
pugnacious families. Consequently we would advise all to beware -- grumble
little, keep comfortable, also a box of pills and a bottle of cough medicine
in case of taking sudden cold. Say nothing when mad and to be noble to all
with whom you have any dealings. The conflict between the rough fellow
winter and virgin spring is for the mastery, with varying fortunes,
absurdities, inconsistencies and contradictions, today rough, cold, cloudy
and forbidding, followed by sunshine, warm breezes and all this promises of
approaching buds and blossoms, leaves and flowers, grass and growing grain.
These will be repeated in rapid succession and sudden changes until having
gained the full meridian of power, spring, clothed in her lovely hues, is
mistress of the season.
