Chariton, Iowa
January 13, 1875

The pupils in the several grades who were neither absent nor tardy for the
past four months were, LAUIE DAWSON, LILLIE GRAY, CARRIE KULL, CARRIE
THRELDKILL, WILLIE SMITH, FRANK HULL, LINCOLN DOUGLASS, JOHN MILNER, WILLIE
KULL, WILLIE ALLEN, FREDDIE POWERS, ETHRIDGE BARROW, HENRY KOULET, CARRIE
KIDDER, NATA VOGAN, OLLIE HULL, GEO. GATLAND, FANNIE COURTLEYOU, CLAUD
YOUNKIN, CHARLEY JAY, PERCY COPELAND, ERNIE ONEAL, CHARLEY MOORE, CLOA BOYD
CORA BOYD AND EMMA LARIMER. -- 26. I give these names for the reason that
I think their faithfulness deserves special mention.

There has been very great improvement in the regularity and promptness in
our attendance for this month, a fact which shows an increased interest on
the part of the pupils and bespeaks for them better results from their
efforts. The gain in our record in these matters has been marked through the
entire term, and the number of absent days and tardinesses for December are
a little more than half so great as the number recorded during the month of
September. Our statistics above will compare favorable with the showing of
the best schools in the State, and are such that, if our patrons will
continue to give their constant help in these and other directions, shall
enable us to make these schools second to none.

We are pleased to acknowledge visits from so many during the term and
especially on the last week, and hope that during this present term we may
have the happy privilege to welcome into our different departments, all who
are especially or otherwise interested. Cannot each father and mother make
the necessary arrangements to leave their other duties and spend one half
day at least, in the schools in the next three months.

We trust you can and thus encourage both pupils and teachers.

H.N. West, Supt.
