WAPELLO MARSHAL COMMITS SUICIDE
Oscar Foor Shoots Self Thro' Head Friday Morning
HAD BEEN IN POOR HEALTH
No Cause For Rash Act is Known But Despondency is the General Verdict - Funeral Services Were Held Sunday.
The residents of this community received a severe shock Friday morning when word was passed from lip to lip that Oscar Foor, our city marshal, had committed suicide. While the cause for this violent act is unknown, it is generally believed that poor health was an important factor in inducing the state of mind which drove him to take his life. He had been suffering with walking typhoid fever the past two weeks and made the remark to friends that if he did not soon get better he would kill himself. He had therefore locked his revolver in a local pool that he might not be tempted.
Friday morning soon after arising, he went down on the street, secured the revolver and returned to his room about 8:45. After a brief conversation with his wife he went into the next room, and without a moment's warning, shot himself in the forehead just above the right eye, death resulting instantly. Mr. and Mrs. Foor had rooms upstairs in the Wonnell building on Second street and the occupants below, hearing Mrs. Foor's screams and the shot, rushed to the scene, but Foor was dead by the time they arrived. An inquest was held soon after the suicide and in the absence of Coroner C. P. Wagner, of Grandview, A.E. Baldrige, justice of the peace, acted in his place, and with jurymen, S. F. Small, M. L. Jamison and Phillip Richley, brought in a verdict declaring that the deceased man came to his death by a gunshot wound in the head inflected.....
