Whittemore, February 14. Special: The death of Mrs. A. W. Haas took place Thursday morning at her home in this city. Although Mrs. Haas had been in poor health for many years, her final illness was only one of about two days' duration. Her children were all at her bedside before the end came.

Lilly Ann Foster was born in New York, February 4, 1859. She moved with her parents to Algona in the fall of 1864, and remained there through the winter and then moved to a homestead five miles west of Algona. They then came to Whittemore, which was before the railroad was built through and this has been the family home ever since.

She was married to A. W. Haas December 1, 1891. For four years Mr. and Mrs. Haas lived on a farm near Casenovia, Minnesota. Three children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Those living are: Lloyd Hass of Cedar Rapids; Corry J. Hass of Whittemore and their adopted daughter, Mrs. Vivian Olsen of Des Moines. There are also two grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Kate Wolf of Forsythe, Montana, also survives. Mr. Hass died March 25, 1918. Mrs. Hass was baptized and joined the Baptist church in 1899, and since the closing of that organization in Whittemore she has held membership in the Baptist church of Algona.

She has always been a faithful worker in the local Methodist church, being a Sunday School teacher for years and a member of the Ladies' Aid society.

Mrs. Haas, knowing that the end was near, asked for her children to come and remain at her bedside. She had a short while before written the events of her life as contained in this obituary and chose the hymns to be sung at her funeral services. Rev. Stevens conducted the services on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church. The pall bearers were her neighbors, Frank Derner, Adam Luchsinger, J. M. Fleming, M. P. McDonnell, Michael Koppen and Frank Bestenlehner.

Those from a distance attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. S. Olsen, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Haas, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. George Hawkins, Goldfield; Mrs. Mabel Hawkins-Martin, Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. John Haas and Mr. and Mrs. John A. Miller and daughter of Elmore, Minnesota; Mrs. Bertha Bowers-Skow of Emmetsburg; Mrs. Emma Rawson, Rev. Webster and Mrs. Driver of Algona.
