Ted A. Chambers, age 84 longtime educator and coach died Monday, August 10, 2020. Graveside services were held Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa.
Ted Arnold Chambers was born May 13, 1936, in Swea City, Iowa the son of Charles and Adeline (Severson) Chambers. Following graduation from Ringsted High School he attended and graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He later received his Master’s degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. On August 24, 1958 he married Jacquelyn L. “Jackie” Christian in Ringstead. The couple and their family moved to Iowa City in 1966.
Ted began a long career in the Iowa City Community Schools that included not only teaching but also coaching football, baseball and basketball to many young persons over the many years. He retired in 1983 and along with Jackie formed Chambers Management Company, a business until recently owned and operated by the Chambers family. Ted was an avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to his Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. He cherished time spent with his family, camping, traveling, and many summers at the cabin in Wisconsin. Ted was truly a family man.
His family includes his two sons and their wives, Scott and Courtney Chambers and Todd and Andrea Chambers; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jillian and Tyler; and Ted’s brother and his wife, Roger and Ellen Chambers and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jackie; and two sisters in infancy.
