Lena Grace Messerschmitt Wyllie, 91, of Martinsburg, died Sun., March 14, 2004, at her home.
She was born Sept. 7, 1912, the daughter of George and Clemma Alice Taylor Messerschmitt. She attended Hedrick High School and graduated in 1930. She married Donald "Lindsay" Wyllie on March 4, 1942 in Lancaster, Mo., she was a telephone operator for the Hedrick telephone exchange during World War II and later was Keokuk County coordinator for the Southern Iowa Economic Development Association from 1970 to 1978 when she retired. She was a member of the Union Chapel Christian Union Church of rural Hedrick.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Wyllie; three nieces, Irene Vogel, Ruth Seaba and Ester Shafranek; three nephews, Jim Messerschmitt, Charles Shafranek and Rex Shafranek; and three special friends, Rita Jacobs, Lois Eschenbrenner and Pat Wolf.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 19, 1963, as a result of an auto accident; a son, Thurman Lynn on April 16, 1966, as a result of an auto accident; her parents; three sisters, Marjorie Harkins, Emma Belveal and Helen Shafranek; two brothers. Charles Messerschmitt and Raleigh Messerschmitt; and a nephew, Max Shafranek in 1987.
Funeral services will be held Wed., March 17 at the Union Chapel Christian Union Church in rural Hedrick at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Eschenbrenner officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Sigourney.
