SCOTCH GROVE - Dr. Vaclav Ondrej Hasek, 61, Scotch Grove, died at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids, Monday, Sept. 5 after an illness of several months. He lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids, coming to Scotch Grove with his family in March of 1968, when he purchased the farm known as Ebys Mill.
He was born Dec. 17, 1909 in Cedar Rapids and was married June 11, 1935 to Margaret Elizabeth McDowell at Charles City. He received his DDS degree from the University of Iowa in 1933 and his MS degree in 1934 and also held a degree in Orthdonics. He began his practice of dentistry in Cedar Rapids in 1934. He served in the United States navy in World War II.
Dr. Hasek was a member of PSI Omega Dental Fraternity; Iowa Dental association; American Dental association; was a past president of the University district of the Iowa Dental association and also held the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental award. He was also a member and past president of the Isaak Walton League and of the Rock and Mineral Society of Cedar Rapids. He was past president of ZCBJ lodge No. 262 and was finance chairman and founder of the first Science Fair in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William, Scotch Grove, and Dr. Ondrej Hasek, Cedar Rapids; a daughter Margaret Ann Hasek, Sioux City; two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. George Roemig, Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, following a cremation service at Turner's Chapel East, Cedar Rapids. Memorials are being sent to the donor's favorite medical research centers.
