Robert “Bob” Charles O’Rear, 78, of Swisher, IA, passed away September 12, 2024.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church in North Liberty, IA on September 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM, Pastor Brooks Simpson officiating. A luncheon immediately following the service at Grace Church.

Robert was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Lucille (Boyd) Mackey on December 12, 1945. He attended Iowa City High School. Following graduation, Robert served in the Navy for four years. After completion of his duty, he went on to work as a mechanic at various garages and for the U of I before opening a tavern “Bob’s Place” in North Liberty, IA. He owned and operated the bar for 25 years until his retirement in 2009. He served the community of North Liberty coaching youth baseball, and many years as volunteer firefighter with several of those as Chief. Robert was an avid lover of nature and animals, having cared for a variety of pets over his lifetime.

Robert is survived by his sons Robert O’Rear of Swisher, IA Sean (Jewel) O’Rear of Masonville, IA. Grandchildren Crystal (Cory) Johnson, Dyvonne, Daniel (Aleyah), Zachariah, Abigail, Anna, Great-Grandchildren Addy and Cade, brothers Bill and Nelson (Teri) O’Rear and Sister Karen Brantley. He was proceeded in death by his mother Lucille, stepfather Bill, adopted parents Doyle & Marie O’Rear and sister Lyda (Bill) Brown.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Croix Hospice, 101 Elkader ST, Strawberry Point, IA 52076. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. Croix for supporting us to help Dad finish well.
