Janet Maureen Scriven was born May 21, 1943, in Kalona, Iowa the daughter of George and Vertie K. (Christopherson) Scriven. She attended school in Iowa City graduating from City High School, and later attended the University of Iowa. She married Daniel C. Helmuth, later marrying LaVern M. Redlinger. She has worked as a medical technologist most of her life, from hospitals, doctors’ offices and even veterinary clinics. But while her daughters were in school, she enjoyed being a teacher’s assistant at Faith Christian Academy.

Janet was a woman of strong faith, her church family was important to her, as was sharing her faith with others. She loved God’s gifts to us, her gardens, monarch butterflies, fishing, hummingbirds, all of God’s creations. Her family was everything, nothing was better than to hear the words, “Grama” or “Gigi”! She loved cooking homemade meals for her family anything from homemade breads, noodles, sugar cookies, to strawberry freezer jam. Every major sports occasion, choir or band concert was celebrated with an ice cream.

Her family includes her children, Norman Helmuth (Wanette), Cheryl Johnston, Brenda Oskam and Angie Robinson; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Linda Scriven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Berry, Kianna Spivey, and Jesus Goytia; 2 infant children, and siblings, Gene Scriven, Rita Thess and Blaine Scriven.
