Answered the Final Summons.

Thomas R. HOWLETT, a resident of Fairfield for more than forty years, died at his home on East Burlington street Saturday evening about 8 o'clock. He had been almost hopelessly ill since April 12th, 1906. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon by Rev. W. F. Jones, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and the body was laid in the Evergreen cemetery. Mr. HOWLETT was born at Springfield, Ill., September 21st, 1837, accompanied his parents to Mt. Pleasant in boyhood and was for many years a resident of that place. He came to this city in 1866 and a year later was married in Kansas to Miss Jane WHISENAND, who survives him. From 1866 to 1896 he was in the clothing trade here and had an extensive acquaintance among the people of city and county. Mr. HOWLETT was a man of more than ordinary reticence, but his kindly manner, his genial disposition, his thoughtfulness for the comfort and welfare of others brought to him many warm friends. He was a man of few words, but never in his language was there a sting of bitterness, nor did he ever speak ill of anyone. Intimate association showed many admirable traits in hischaracter (sic) and a friend once gained was a friend always. Those who know of his long illness, of the patience with which he bore his sufferings, of his gentleness and kindness at all times will long remember Tom HOWLETT. Mr. HOWLETT leaves one son, Frank R. HOWLETT of Argentine, Kan.

Thomas HOWLETT Dead.

Thomas HOWLETT who for the past fifteen months has been confined to his home by illness, passed away Saturday night. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, in 1837, and was in his 70th year. He came here in 1866 and has since been a resident here. He was engaged in the clothing business until about six years ago he retired on account of failing health. He was a quiet, undemonstrative man, a man of few words, and decided in his views, but withal, a kindly man in his home and a true friend and good neighbor. A man who spent a great deal of his time reading and was up in all political and other questions of interest to the general public. By his death Fairfield loses one of her good citizens and a pioneer settler. A wife and one son, Frank, of Kansas City, survives him. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home on East Burlington street, in charge of Rev. W. F. Jones, of the Presbyterian church, and the body laid away in Evergreen cemetery. The profusion of beautiful flowers breathed the silent sympathy of numberless friends to the bereaved ones in their dark hour of grief over the loss of husband and father.
