Madison (WI) - Virgil Gene Henning, age 76, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on January 21, 1948, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Eva (Reynolds) Henning.
Virgil graduated from Newton High School. On August 29, 1981, he married Karen (Nowak) Henning in Webster, N.Y. Prior to retirement, Virgil enjoyed a career as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), working in the nursing home setting. In his free time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and taking trips. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Erika Mathias and Amy (Rick) Drake; son, Matthew Henning; sister, Marcia (James) White; grandsons, Jacob Mathias, Nicholas Drake, Logan Henning and Jordan Henning; granddaughters, Jaden Mathias and Breanna Drake; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Aaron Henning; brothers, Carl Henning and Gerald Henning; sisters, Edith Luckey, Judith Norton and Ruth Henning; and grandson, Corbin Mathias.
A funeral service will be held at Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral & Cremation Care, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
