Armelda M (Kling) Sutton
April 16, 1940 ~ September 3, 2024 (age 84)

Armelda M. Sutton, 84, of Newton died on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Traditions Memory Care of Newton. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, September 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Armelda’s name (checks made payable to Donald Sutton) may be left at the funeral home.

Armelda, the daughter of Lester D. and Carol (Cunningham) Kling, was born on April 16, 1940 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1958. On April 12, 1958, Armelda was united in marriage with Donald Keith Sutton in Newton. Armelda worked for many years as a Para Professional at the Newton Schools. Later she worked at Nelson Manor, was a nanny for the Wendel family, and a cook at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department. She attended church at First Southern Baptist, which later changed its name to Iron Sharpens Iron.

Armelda loved to read, draw, play solitaire, raise flowers, and spoil her pets. She was a huge race fan and enjoyed cheering for Tony Stewart. Armelda was also a talented cook and baker; her specialties were hamburger casserole, hamballs, and Christmas cookies. Through the years, Armelda was a “mom” and “grandma” to many kids through her job at the school, her children’s friends, and with kids in her neighborhood.

Armelda is survived by her children, Donald (Kelli Rea) Sutton of Newton, Tim (Jan) Sloan of Missouri, and Manny (Paula) Ruiz of Newton; grandchildren, Tyler Sutton of Des Moines, Justin Ruiz-Pittman of St. Louis, Missouri, Keith (Addrianna) Sutton III of Newton, and Quentin Noftsger of Newton; a great-grandchild, Aaralyn; her sister, Carol McKinney of Newton; half-siblings, Eddie Parkingson, Debbie Kleinschrodt, Mike Wilson, Patty Eastman, Howard Kling, Kathy Plumb, and James Kling; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester (Margaret) Kling; mother, Carol (Ed) Parkingson; husband, Donald Keith Sutton; and a son, Leslie Edward.
