Funeral services for John Stitzel Dye, 60, who operated the Dye Funeral Home in Tipton for 25 years, were held at St. John's Lutheran church, Bellevue, April 5 with the Rev. E. Bush officiating. Burial was in St. John's cemetery, Bellevue. Military services were held at the grave site by the American Legion post at Bellevue.

Mr. Dye died at University hospitals, Iowa City March 31.

Pallbearers from Tipton included Jim Lyle, Charles Thumma, Harold Ford and George Miller Sr.

The son of John L. and Dorothy Stitzel Dye, he was born at Brookings, S.D., Sept. 13, 1924. He graduated from Bellevue high school in 1942.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps Dec. 9, 1942, and was discharged Dec. 17, 1945. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from July 1, 1943 to Nov. 25, 1945. During this time he was at New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, the Ryukuk Island and saw combat against the Japanese at Okinawa.

He attended the University of Dubuque and Coe college after leaving service. He worked at his father's funeral home in Bellevue and attended the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, Kans. in 1948 and passed the Iowa board examinations in 1949.

He was married to Helen Kloston at First Presbyterian church, Dubuque June 20, 1949.

Before coming to Tipton he was associated with the Dahl Funeral home, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Dye came to Tipton in 1956 and was associated with R. H. Peterseim in the operation of the Peterseim and Dye funeral home. In 1958 he purchased the funeral home from Peterseim, operating it until 1983. Since that time he had been associated with the operation of the Dye Funeral home at Bellevue.

He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 11, AF&AM, Tipton, Kaaba Shrine Temple, Davenport; the Moose Lodge, Tipton; the American Legion at Bellevue and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Tipton.

He is survived by his former wife, Dubuque; 2 sons, John A., Bellevue and Jason J., Dubuque; a daughter, Rebecca, Dubuque; 4 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Elizabeth) Sandrock, Coronado Shores, Calif.

Memorials may be made to the John S. Dye Memorial fund, in care of the Egelhof-Casper-Strueber funeral home, Dubuque.
