Funeral Services For Forrest Pattison December 29
Funeral services for Forrest Pattison, who died December 27, 1957, in the Hartley Memorial Hospital in Battle Creek, Iowa, following an extended illness, were conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 29, 1957, in the Christensen Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Iowa. The Rev. Merle E. Elrod, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Ida Grove, officiated in the services. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. E. J. Hofmeister and Mrs. Winston Hansen. The hymns; “Going Down The Valley One By One” and “We’ll Say Good-Night Here But Good Morning Up There,” were sung by Mrs. Mary Hall and Mrs. John J. Schmidt, accompanied by Miss Cassie Taylor at the organ. Pall Bearers were Frank Hare, Lyle Lockner, Alfred Segebart, Harry Kerr, Jess Weatherman and Curtis Van Houten. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Among those from out-of-town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Gail Pattison, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sokolowski, Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lorenzen, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Urban Lease, Galva; Mrs. Otto Hagemann, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hagemann, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Gierstorf and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Boysen, Schleswig; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Weatherman and Lyle Weatherman, Aurelia; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Scott, Cushing; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ehlers, Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rowe and Walter Muller, Ida Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Segebart, Arthur. The House Committee in the Pattison home Sunday, included Mrs. Harry Johnson, Mrs. Jess Weatherman and Mrs. Curtis VanHouten. They served lunch to the bereaved family and relatives and friends, when they returned from the cemetery. David Forrest Pattison, son of David and Susan Pattison was born August 20, 1889, on the parental farm north of Battle Creek. Forrest grew up on the parental farm, attending the public school at Battle Creek. He received his Christian training in the First Presbyterian church at Battle Creek, of which he became a member about 1906. Except for a brief period from 1926-1934, when he and his family lived in South Dakota, he lived all of this life near or in the town of Battle Creek. During this time and for a few years after his retirement he was engaged in farming. December 20, 1911 he was united in marriage to Florence Cubbage at Battle Creek, and to this union were born four children, one of whom died in infancy. Forrest and Mrs. Pattison retired from farming in 1944 and made their residence in the town of Battle Creek until he passed away on December 27, 1957. David Forrest Pattison was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant child, but leaves as his survivors his wife, Mrs. Florence Pattison, and three children; Orien, Bernice (Mrs. Lester Hagemann) and Veryl Bernard, all of Battle Creek, five grandchildren, and a foster brother, Frank Pattison. Throughout his life he maintained an active interest and participation in the church, which he attended regularly until his death.
