Timothy F. O’Connell
(January 21, 1881 – April 27, 1941)

The sudden demise of T. F. O’Connell, well known and highly esteemed citizen of this community, which took place at an early hour Sunday morning, April 27 came as a distant shock to the entire community. Mr. and Mrs. O’Connell had been in town the night before and while he did not feel well, little thought was given that it would prove fatal. He was taken with a heart attack. Timothy F. O’Connell, son of Michael and Bridget O’Connell, was born at Moingona, Iowa, January 21, 1881, and passed away at his home in Silver Creek, Sunday, April 27 at 2 o’clock a.m., at the age of 60 years. He was preceded in death by his father on March 17, 1909, his mother, December 5, 1920, and a sister in 1904. At the age of two years he came to Ida County with his parents and they settled on a farm in Hayes Township, where they lived a few years. Later the family purchased a farm in Silver Creek township and moved there. This place was Mr. O’Connell’s home the remainder of his life. For a period of five years he was engaged in the elevator business in Ida Grove, selling his interests in 1930. He was united in marriage with Mary Davey, February 20, 1912, at Brownsville, Minn., who is now left to mourn the loss of a faithful companion. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Tuesday at 10 o’clock a.m., Rev. Father Joseph Davey of LaCrescent, Minn., celebrated solemn requiem mass. Rev. Father Francis Graf of Jainesville, Minn., acted as deacon and Father P.M. Mattes, subdeacon. Father Francis McNeil of Danbury was also present in the sanctuary. Mrs. T. J. Houlihan presided at the organ and was assisted with the singing by Mrs. J. R. O’Brien. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers were John White, Ed. Perion, Leo Bekman, Ray Bresnahan, William Hartgenbush and James Hopkins. Those from a distance attending the services were: Rev. Father Jos. Davey, Mr. and Mrs. John Davey, LaCrescent, Minn., Mrs. Harry Kennedy, Caledonia, Minn., Mrs. Jas. Davey, Mary and Harold, Wm. Corcoran, Brownsville, Minn., Henry Corcoran, Grand Meadow, Minn., Mrs. John Graf, Freeburg, Minn., Mrs. M. J. Cunningham, LaCrosse, Wis., Thos. Davey and daughter, Mary Leone and Francis Davey, Chicago, Mrs. M. M. White, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fitzpatrick, Danbury, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Walsh and W. S. Young, Sioux City.
