GOLDEN WEDDING
On Wednesday afternoon, May 22, about one hundred and twenty friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Neal, Sr., to commemorate with them the 50th anniversary of their married life, says the Ida Grove Era. Mr. Meal was born in Buckinghamshire, England, December 8, 1820 and Mrs. Neal was born December 12, 1824 in the same village.
Both received their early education and training in their native land. They were united in marriage, May 23, 1845. As they advanced into manhood and womanhood the conceived the idea of making their home in a foreign land, so in 1854, Mr. Neal with his family embarked to America and stopping for a few months near Cleveland, Ohio, coming to Iowa the same year and settled near Cascade in Dubuque County, where they lived until four years ago this spring when they came to Ida County.
Comparatively few persons reach the golden meridian of life as hale and hearty as the subjects of this sketch. Mr. Neal having helped to put out a crop of 240 acres, following a team most of the time this spring. When in the midst of this joyous occasion, which was spent in various games, pastimes and social chats, the guest were invited into the dining room where two long tables were waiting with their delicious load of eatables, making everyone feel that it was good to be there.
