BIG LAND SALE – Probably the largest sale of land ever made in a single transaction by the Iowa Railroad Land Company, and was made to a party of Germans from this county, mostly farmers, represented by T. F. Blunck, Esq., of this city. It comprised sixteen and one half sections, being 10, 788.32 acres, at $5.75 per acre, amounting to $61,745.34, on what they call “long time.” The land is situated in a body of the north part Ida County, and is some of the finest land in the western part of Iowa. These lands are bought for immediate settlement, and some of Scott Counties very best German farmers are to occupy them. Speaking of this sale, the Cedar Rapids Republican says: “They grow more good farmers in Scott County than any other county in the state, and we commend their selection. Ida County can be justly termed the “garden of Iowa.” – Davenport Democrat
