Larry Kostohryz, age 72, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at home.

Larry Francis Kostohryz was born on September 09, 1952 in Cresco to Frank and Adella (Hrdlicka) Kostohryz. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1971.

Larry played Slow pitch softball in his younger years. We enjoyed many nights at the ballparks. Growing up he loved showing cattle through 4H and FFA at the local county fairs, Cattle Congress and the Iowa State Fair. He continued to attend these fairs his entire life. Larry enjoyed farming, mowing lawn and watching cattle auctions. He loved to collect Hawkeye Coin Banks, Amberina Dishes, Cow figurines and Case IH Tractor toys. He was a lifelong Iowa State Cyclone and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Larry’s highlight was having the family farm be honored at the Iowa State Fair in 2023 with a Heritage Farm Award, which means it has been in the family for 150 years.

On October 3, 1981, Larry married Cynthia (Cindy) Schemmel in Cresco. They had two children Scott and Chad.

Larry is survived by his wife Cindy; two children: Scott Kostohryz of Ames, IA and Chad Kostohryz of Cresco, IA; four grandchildren: Hayden, Cody, Aubree and Jaxon; sister Sharon Kostohryz of Rochester, MN; two brother in-laws Ken Schemmel of GA and Robert Schemmel of GA; and one sister-in-law Carol Bohr of Rochester, MN.

Larry was preceded in death by his father Frank Kostohryz and mother Adella Kostohryz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Fr. Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held prior to Mass on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Larry will be laid to rest at New Oregon Cemetery.
