OBITUARY.
ACHATZ.
John J. Achatz was born in Peru, Ill., August 12, 1852. In 1856, his parents moved to Bristol township, Fillmore County, Minn., and took up a homestead. Here the son lived until 1885 when he embarked in business at Granger, Minn. In 1890, he moved to Larrabee, Iowa, where he remained ten years. After a three year residence at Algona, Iowa, he located at Doon, Ia., where he continued in the general merchandise business until his death. In July, he visited Rochester to obtain relief from cancer of the stomach, but the disease was too far advanced and he died on September 22nd at the home os{sic} his daughter, Mrs. J. C. Becker, at Sheldon, Iowa.
Mr. Achatz was married in January, 1885, to Miss Maggie Milz, of Cresco, Iowa, who died Nov. 13, 1908. He is survived by four children: R. V. Achatz, of LaFayette, Ind., F. L. Achatz, of Rock Valley, Iowa, Mrs. J. C. Becker, of Sheldon, Iowa, and Ruth Achatz who was living at home at the time of his death; four brothers; H. J., William, Charles and F. F. Achatz, all of Harmony, Minn., a fifth brother, Henry, has not been heard from for twenty years.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Ryan at the Church of the Assumption at Cresco, Iowa. Burial was made at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.—Harmony News.
