Dolores Ledbeter, age 84, of Cresco, IA, formerly of Hayward, WI and Waterloo, IA passed away on September 4, 2024 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco after saying her goodbyes.

Dolores was born February 23, 1940 to Walter and Ann (Diehl) Fischer in Chicago, IL. Dolores attended school in Chicago until the eighth grade. She moved to Hayward as a freshman and graduated high school there.

Dolores met Jerald W Ledbeter; they were married on April 26, 1958. Jerald and Dolores soon moved to Fort Hood, TX where Jerald served in the United States Army (along with Elvis Presley). Dolores moved back to Hayward while Jerald served his country in Germany.

The couple then moved to Waterloo and raised their family. After Jerald retired from John Deere & Company they returned to Hayward. They enjoyed their time together here until Jerald’s death in 2017. For the next five years Dolores stayed in the Hayward area, until making the move to the Cresco Assisted Living.

Dolores loved reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching game shows, cooking for family and friends and sharing a good joke. Dolores had a joke for everyone and was loved by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four children: Clara Ledbeter of Somerset, WI, Jerry (Sharye) Ledbeter of Cresco, IA, Kathy Ledbeter of Waterloo, IA and Tom (Penny) Ledbeter of Mason City, IA, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, a sister, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ann Fischer, husband Jerald, brother Ron Fischer and an infant great-granddaughter.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home in Cresco. A celebration of life will be held later this fall in Hayward, WI. (Please check back for dates and times as they become available.)
