Dan Barnes received a letter from his brother, Jerry Barnes, that he feared that one of his boys had lost his life in France. Mr. Barnes received an official telegraphic notification that his son Frank had been reported as missing in action Sept. 29th, but he has received word that a boy in the same company in writing to his mother stated that Frank was killed Sept. 29th in the hard fighting in the Argonne forest. The boy was born in Cresco and was one of three brothers in the service. The family have the sincere sympathy of their Cresco friends in their deep grief.
