Samuel Nichols passed away on Wednesday evening at his home in Albion at the age of 79 years. The funeral services will be held at the home to-day at 2 o’clock, Rev. Shoemaker of Lime Springs officiating, and the remains will be laid {to} rest in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Nichols.

Samuel Nichols, youngest son of Holt and Mary Nichols, was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, Oct. 23, 1839.

In his early youth with his parents he moved to Yorkshire Corners, Cateraugus county, New York, where the family lived about one year.

In 1851 they moved to Illinois, locating on a farm near Dixson. In October, 1857, they came to Iowa, settling in Howard about six miles northwest of Cresco.

Aug. 15, 1862, Mr. Nichols answered to his country‘s call by enlisting in the 34th Iowa Infantry. He was afterwards transferred to Co. I, 38th Iowa Infantry where he served until his discharge Aug. 15, 1865.

March 4, 1872, he was married to Miss Harriet Sheward of Iron Ridge, Wis., and the young couple settled on the farm where they have ever since resided.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, he was suddenly taken ill and passed away the same evening at eight o’clock.

He leaves to mourn his death, a wife, one son Albert L., of Cresco and one daughter, Mrs. Florence E. Smouse of Toledo, Ore. He is also survived by two grandchildren and one aged sister Mrs. Mary Frasier of Preston, Minn.
