Verne E. Wilkins, 90, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Verne E. Wilkins will be 4:00 pm Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Iowa Falls Evangelical Free Church, 19939 County Highway D-20, Iowa Falls, Iowa, with Pastor Jeremy Nelson officiating. A time of visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Sunday, July 27th at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls. Burial with military honors will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his daughter: Trish Lee 21647 Highway D-41, Eldora, Iowa 50627.
Verne Ellis Wilkins was born June 04, 1924, at Morrison, Illinois, the son of Jacob Isaac and Ella [Pruis] Wilkins. He attended the Morrison Southside Grade School and graduated from the Morrison High School with the class of 1942. He served with the United States Marine Corp from 1943 to 1946 during World War II, being stationed in Tinian and Saipan. After his service time he attended Central College receiving his BA in Biology, and later his Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. He was a teacher and the Dean of Students at Annville Institute, Annville, Kentucky from 1949 to 1969, when he became a Jr. High Math Teacher at DeWitt, Iowa, retiring in 1986. On November 22, 1951 Verne was united in marriage to Eileen Mae DeYoung at Gray Hawk, Kentucky. To this union two children were born; Dan and Patricia. He was a founding member of the Christ Family Reformed Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. After moving to Iowa Falls, he attended the Iowa Falls Evangelical Free Church.
Verne Wilkins is survived by his children: Dan Brian Wilkins of Lexington, Kentucky and Trish Ann [Lynn] Lee of Eldora, Iowa. He is also survived by a brother: Jean Edward [Marty] Wilkins of Woodbury, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jacob and Ella Wilkins; and his wife: Eileen Wilkins.
