Alfred Green.

After a sickness from heart trouble extending throughout the winter, Alfred Green passed away from this life Monday evening at 9:40 o'clock, March 18, 1907. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Williams, and on the afternoon train the body was taken to Des Moines and laid to rest in Woodland cemetery, Rev. Williams accompanying the remains to Des Moines and conducting the services there.

Alfred Green was born at Somerset, Ohio, October24, 1840, and at the time of his death was sixty-six years, four months and twenty-four days old.

In 1844 with his parents he moved to Iowa, and has remained a citizen of the state. He served in Co. H, 19th Iowa regiment through the Civil war and had an honorable record in the service. In 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Neely in Marion county, Iowa. His wife and five children survive him, the children being Mrs. Jennie Manbeck of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Seithers of Des Moines, Oscar Green of Des Moines, Warren Green of Goltry, Okla., and Elmer Green of Jewell.

Mr. Green was a member of the G. A. R. post of Webster City, and among these fast thinning ranks his loss will be sincerely mourned. In the loss of Mr. Green the boys who wore the blue in defense of their country's honor have lost a tried and true comrade, and his friends in Hamilton county have lost and esteemed and respected friend and neighbor.
