Louis M. Knosby, 91, of Webster City, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City, with Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Webster City. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City, with recitation of the Rosary to begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by a scripture service.
Louis Martin Knosby, son of Martin and Eileen Hayes Knosby, was born on August 6, 1920 in Cumming, Iowa. He received his education in the Cumming and Norwalk schools. During WW II, Louis worked for the Martin Corporation. In 1949, he moved to Williams, Iowa where he was engaged in farming. On June 16, 1951 he married Virginia Belle Lesher at the St. John's Catholic Church. The couple resided on a farm near Williams until 1970, when they moved to a farm northwest of Webster City. Louis continued farming the family's farm until the couple moved into Webster City in March of 2011.
Survivors include his loving wife Virginia of over 60 years; children, Martin (Jennifer) Knosby of Fort Dodge; Ellen (Allen) McBroom of Webster City; Louis Michael Knosby also of Webster City; Leota (John) Thompson of St. Charles, MO; Diane (Jim) Smith of Waverly; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Knosby of Ida Belle, OK; sister, Eileen Stangl of Brea, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Cyril, Austin, John, Fred, and Robert Knosby.
He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; Williams Lions Club and was a longtime 4-H leader.
