DISTRESSING OCCURRENCE

The wife of Mr. B.R. Brewer, who lives about five miles up the river from this place, died last Monday morning from the effects of a heavy dose of opium which she took in mistake for rhubarb. It seems that they had both the articles in the house and that Mrs. B., who was slightly ailing, got them confounded and took the opium instead of the rhubarb. She took the dose about 8 o'clock on Sunday evening and died early the next morning. This is the second wife Mr. B. has lost within the past two years - both of whom were sisters, and each left him an infant daughter. The former left a daughter about three weeks old, and the latter leaves one about six weeks of age. Mr. Brewer has a large circle of friends and relatives who deeply sympathize with him in his terrible bereavement.
